We will make the RSPCA a great place to work

core services

Building a great place to work

We’re committed to being a great place to work, where people feel valued, supported, and empowered to deliver lasting impact for animals. Through our core services, we’ll strengthen governance, enhance operational management, and provide robust support across people, finance, facilities and sustainability. We’ll continue to invest in the technologies, infrastructure, AI, and digital platforms that enable improved service delivery, while embedding strong data foundations, business intelligence, and insights to drive informed decision-making.

We’ll continue the progress in delivering our People and Culture Plan, including our equity, diversity and inclusion activities, to build an inclusive, high-performing culture that attracts and develops talent, fosters engagement and wellbeing, and ensures we remain a resilient, future-fit organisation. By aligning our internal capabilities with our purpose of inspiring everyone to create a better world for every animal, we’ll create the conditions for our people to thrive and for our impact to grow.

To achieve our sustainability objectives, we’ll continue to embed our Environmental Plan, delivering on the RSPCA’s commitment to a healthier planet for animals, people and nature. Through our two core pillars — Nature and Biodiversity, and Climate Change — we’ll take meaningful action to reduce our environmental footprint and protect the ecosystems on which all animals depend.

Change activity

Our ability to protect animals is only as powerful as the foundation we build upon. By aligning our workforce design to our purpose, evolving our governance models to manage modern risks, and leveraging data to drive evidence-based decisions, we’re building an organisation that’s not just fit for today, but prepared for the challenges of the future. These are the actions we’ll take.

Building an inclusive and high-performing culture

Organisational development

Through organisational development, we’ll ensure we have the right skills, capabilities and talents to deliver our strategy.

By taking a purposeful and strategic approach to recruitment, we’re strengthening how we plan and deploy our talent. The aim is to ensure that every role adds value, supports collaboration, and contributes directly to our shared ambition to create a better world for every animal.

Strengthening governance

Membership review

We’ll review our membership model, seeking to understand the options available to us, assess the risks and opportunities, and determine our overall appetite and the benefits of change.

Sustainable, future-fit organisation

Data and insight

We’ll harness the power of data and insight to understand our impact and drive continuous improvement in animal welfare. By developing stronger data systems, processes and capabilities, we’ll generate the evidence needed to make smarter, faster, and more informed decisions across the organisation.

Wild Animal Strategy

The Wild Animal Strategy will build a clear, evidence-based framework for our involvement with wild and exotic animals, clarifying our role, strengthening collaboration across the sector, and ensuring our actions are strategic, sustainable, and centred on improving welfare outcomes for all animals in our care and beyond.

Branch funding and partnership model

As part of the 2025 five-year branch strategy, we’ll ensure we provide the best possible support to our branch network. This will take into account long-term sustainability, future development needs, and – at the centre of all decisions – improved animal welfare outcomes.
