Thinking Time Activity

This activity is a great way to help young people reflect on past events and the choices they made. You’ll guide them to think about what happened, why it happened, and what could have been done differently.

Instructions

  • 1 Introduce the activity – Go through the questions below with the young person and chat about each one. Explain why this activity is important for understanding responsible behaviour towards animals.
  • 2 Recall the incident – Ask if they can remember the incident. Encourage them to reflect on what happened and why.
  • 3 Think about alternatives – In the final section, help the young person think about what they could have done differently. If they’re unsure, offer gentle suggestions, like observing wildlife from a distance or taking photos instead of interacting directly.
  • 4 Reflect together – Encourage them to think about how they can use what they’ve learned to make better choices in the future.

Questions

Ask these three questions to reflect what happened before, during, and after the event.

  • 1 What happened?
  • 2 What were you feeling?
  • 3 What were you thinking?
  • Finish off by asking one final question: Think about if you were in that situation again, what would you do differently? And why?
