Before you get started
Why this is important
Seeded apples provide year-round nourishment for birds, helping them through key seasons:
- Spring: Extra food supports birds feeding their young.
- Summer: Dry ground makes natural food harder to find.
- Autumn: Birds moult, replace feathers, and prepare for winter.
- Winter: Extra energy helps them survive the cold and get ready for nesting.

Instructions
Make your seeded apple
Items you will need
You will need:
- An apple
- Sunflower seeds
- Apple corer (or other tool)

Make a hole through the apple
Carefully cut a hole through the apple using an apple corer or a suitable tool.
If needed, ask an adult for help to ensure it's done safely.

Add seeds to the apple
Take the pointy end of sunflower seeds and pierce them into the apple.
Using the seeds, you could draw a picture or write a word!

Hang the apple
Hang the apple in an open space where birds are likely to feel safe (somewhere away from cats!).
Make sure there’s a branch nearby for birds to stand on while they eat.
