Why this is important
Seeded apples help feed birds year-round, providing essential nourishment during key times:
- Spring: When birds are feeding their young.
- Summer: When dry ground makes food harder to find.
- Autumn: As they moult, replace feathers, and prepare for winter.
- Winter: When they need extra energy to survive the cold and prepare for spring nesting.

Instructions
Make your seeded apple
Items you will need
You will need:
- An apple
- Sunflower seeds
- Apple corer (or other tool)

Make a hole through the apple
Cut a hole through the apple.
Ask an adult for help to cut a hole through your apple, removing the core.
You can use an apple corer or another sharp tool to create a hole.

Add seeds to the apple
Take the pointy end of sunflower seeds and pierce them into the apple.
Using the seeds, you could draw a picture or write a word!

Hang the apple
Hang the apple in an open space where birds are likely to feel safe (somewhere away from cats!).
Make sure there’s a branch nearby for birds to stand on while they eat.
