Before you get started

Why this is important

Campaigns help to improve animals’ lives by informing the public, influencing laws, and encouraging people to act. Understanding how they work will help you see the role everyone can play in protecting animals.

Explore an RSPCA campaign

Choose one campaign that interests you from this list:

Explore these questions as part of your research:

  • What issue does it focus on?
  • Why is the issue a welfare problem for animals?
  • What action are they asking people to take?

Collect opinions

Ask three to five people what they think about the issue your chosen campaign focuses on.

You can keep your questions simple, for example: “I’m looking at a campaign to change firework laws. Did you know that fireworks can be an animal welfare problem? Why do you think they might cause issues for animals?”

Record their responses in short notes.

Reflection

Write a short reflection:

  • What do you like about this campaign?
  • Did the five people you spoke to recognise the animal welfare problem?
  • What are the benefits to animals if the campaign goal is successful?
  • Who is responsible for creating change?
  • Is there a different campaign you would like to run to help animals?
